At Legacy Travel Designs, we see ourselves as matchmakers. We “match” our clients with the perfect accommodations, experiences, and services based on our vast network of contacts and partnerships within the travel community. The result is a bespoke vacation tailored to the exact needs and travel styles of each unique client. The Québec trip that is outlined below is a perfect example of this.
If you’ve been following us for a while, you may remember a Québec-based trip that we put together based on our clients’ interest in author Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series. This more recent trip, while overlapping in some of the sights and locations, is totally different. In this case, we had a 3-generation family group with ages ranging from 11 to 84. After pivoting from a longer, overseas trip, the group chose a closer destination that would still give them the European feel. They wanted to “splash out” as they celebrated upcoming milestone birthdays and anniversaries, and they wanted culinary and cultural experiences that would help them create memories to last a lifetime. Legacy Travel Designs was up to the challenge! Check out the itinerary and consider how this would be similar to or different from a trip to Quebec that you would request.
This heritage urban resort has breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence River and the architecture of the Old fortified City. The Chateau itself, built in 1893, is an iconic part of the Québec City skyline. In any one of its 610 guestrooms and suites, there is an elegant touch of historic Europe. Your experience at this landmark luxury hotel will guarantee you a memorable and inspiring stay in one of the most beautiful, and walkable, cities in the world. The clients stayed in the Fairmont Gold level rooms, which are privately located on the highest floors of the hotel and offer guests exclusive services and amenities.
Dinner at Chez Rioux & Pettigrew: Seasonal, local ingredients take on a world of flavours at Chez Rioux & Pettigrew. The colourful, creative dishes layer textures and tastes, much like the space layers modern luxuries with vintage artifacts that recall its roots as Rioux & Pettigrew General Store, founded all the way back in 1860. Order mouthwatering delights for brunch, lunch and dinner or sit at the table d’hôte and let the chef’s surprise creations awaken your sense of exploration.
After breakfast in the exclusive Fairmont Gold Lounge, the clients enjoyed a private, guided tour through Québec City with their own 10-passenger minibus at their disposal. They were able to determine with the guide the sites they wanted to see and how long to spend in each location.
After the tour, the clients were able to relax at the hotel, visit a museum, or participate in any of the many activities offered by Fairmont’s “Experience” program, such as yoga classes, spa treatments, and artist-in-residence appearances.
Dinner at Restaurant Légende: Drawing inspiration from Quebec’s native history, Restaurant Légende’s dishes are divided into Water, Earth and Land categories. Local fish, vegetables and gamey meats make up the upscale menu. The decor is cozy and elegant, with wood panels lining the walls. Taste a bit of history at Restaurant Légende.
The clients were greeted by their same driver and tour guide to embark on a private visit to several sites outside the city center, such as Montmorency Falls, Île d’Orléans, and the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-De-Beaupré. The tour guide arranged for lunch at countryside restaurant and adjusted the schedule as requested by the clients
Dinner at Le Clocher Penché in the Salon Rouge: The clients enjoyed dinner in a separate dining room at this popular restaurant in downtown Quebec City. Le Clocher Penché works with local farmers to create its veggie- and fish-heavy menu, and many of the dishes are almost too pretty to eat. Each dish is like a work of art, but it all tastes as good as it looks.
The Fairmont Gold concierge team was able to arrange a private, before-hours tour of the Citadelle, the National Historic Site located atop Cap Diamant in Old Québec. After the tour, the clients enjoyed a 30-minute musical performance on the parade ground in the heart of the fortress. On certain days in the summer, the Royal 22nd Regiment musicians, decked out in their scarlet regimental dress and bearskins, perform a concert on the Citadelle grounds, instead of the usual Changing of the Guard Ceremony.
In the afternoon, the clients embarked on a guided sightseeing cruise along the St. Lawrence River. They sailed from Old Quebec to the Montmorency Falls, made a stop at the Île d’Orléans and enjoyed a breathtaking view of the Château Frontenac.
Farewell Dinner at Chez Boulay Bistro Boréal: With emphasis on ingredients found in Canada’s vast boreal forest, Chez Boulay incorporates a myriad of flavours into its dishes that you wouldn’t find elsewhere. Think wild mushrooms and delicious flavours from fir tree essence and birch syrup. Enjoy their Nordic-inspired cuisine in their stylish, modern dining room made up of chocolate wood.
